Bumgarner Returns to Hickory for Friday Start

Former South Caldwell High School star and San Francisco Giants 2007 No. 1 pick Madison Bumgarner returns with the Augusta GreenJackets to start against the Hickory Crawdads on Friday, June 27.
In his first outing of the year in Hickory, Bumgarner drew a season-high crowd at L.P. Frans Stadium of 4,805 while dazzling with eight strikeouts and one unearned run allowed in 6.1 innings. Including that start, Bumgarner has now gone 6-0 in his last 10 trips to the mound, allowing just six total runs (four earned) to drop his season ERA to from 7.71 to 1.77 in the process. Bumgarner has also earned back-to-back South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week honors.
He will face Hickory's scheduled starter Rafael De Los Santos, who lasted six innings against Bumgarner in the April 24 duel, striking six and walking none.
The Crawdads will also feature in the five-game series the home debuts of infielders Jordy Mercer and Matt Hague, Pittsburgh's third- and ninth-round draft picks earlier this month. Mercer is the highest draft pick the Pirates have signed this season.
