Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE - Kevin Clark drove in four runs with an RBI single in the fifth inning and a two-run home run in the fourth as the Tourists powered their way past the Hickory Crawdads by a 7-1 score. It was the first time in the last four series that Asheville picked up the series win.
In addition to Clark, the Tourists picked up multi-hit games from Michael Mitchell and Everth Cabrera and finally broke their streak of three games in a row where the defense had committed at least three errors. The T's D only had one miscue to their credit in the finale with Hickory.
Asheville picked up an unearned run in the first after back-to-back singles from Mitchell and Cabrera. With Cabrera on first, Brad Lincoln's pickoff throw went wide of first base to allow Mitchell to trot home. Hickory evened things in the fourth with Ronald Pena's RBI single.
Clark's home run in the bottom half of the frame gave the Tourists a lead they would not give up, but Asheville was saving their best for the fifth. Five hits in the inning, including RBI singles from Rike and Clark and an RBI double off the bat of Darin Holcomb, plated four runs and gave Tourists pitching all the support they'd need.
Bruce Billings (5-5) fired seven innings to pick up his first win at McCormick Field since April 6th. He gave up just one earned run on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Lincoln (4-3) took the loss for the Crawdads, allowing all seven runs but only being charged with five earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
On Friday, the Tourists will welcome the Greenville Drive to town for a pair of games to finish this brief five-game homestand. Asheville will send Connor Graham (5-3, 1.98) to the mound to face Jose Alvarez (5-8, 6.25). Come join the celebration for Ted E. Tourist's 17th birthday, as the Tourists will hand out free birthday cake to all in attendance. Telco Community Credit Union will celebrate the occasion by giving the first 500 fans through the gate a free Ted E. Tourist bank. It's also another Ladies Night, brought to you by Sophie Magazine and Asheville Regional Airport, with all ladies enjoying the chance to purchase dollar wines all night long. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on the Tourists flagship station WRES-FM, 100.7.
