Carolina Mudcats News Release

Zebulon, NC --- Bill Rhinehart had four hits and three RBI to lead Carolina past Montgomery 9-4 at Five County Stadium on Saturday night.

After the Mudcats (21-26) spotted the Biscuits (25-23) a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Rhinehart singled home a pair of two-out runs, then scored on a hit by Eric Campbell for a 3-2 lead.

Carolina added three more against starter Shane Dyer in the second thanks to, in part, an infield single by Quintin Berry.

Justin Lehr struggled through the first inning as the first six Biscuit hitters reached, however a pair of baserunning blunders by Montgomery allowed Lehr a crack in the window to escape. Sean O'Malley was trapped between first and second on a Lehr pickoff move for one out, and Cole Figueroa ignored a stop sign at third base by his manager and was promptly thrown out at the plate by Cody Puckett on a single to right. Lehr wound up going 4 1/3 innings, permitting three runs in a no-decision.

A day after Carolina allowed 10 runs in a single inning, the Mudcats fortune had changed.

Neftali Soto crushed a solo homer to lead off the sixth, while Eric Campbell drilled a solo shot in the eighth.

Brandon Hynick (W, 2-3) worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run to earn the win.

Carolina remained 7 1/2 behind first place Chattanooga with 22 to play in the regular season.

Pedro Villarreal (5-3, 5.15) starts Sunday at 2:00 PM ET against Alexander Colome (1-1, 3.18).
