Stars Homer Past Generals, Ending Four-Game Win Streak

JACKSON, TENN. - The Huntsville Stars blasted three home runs Saturday en route to a 6-3 win over Jackson at Pringles Park, snapping the Generals four-game winning streak. Brock Kjeldgaard blasted two homers in the game for Huntsville. The Stars win ended their five-game losing skid and was their first victory at Pringles Park this season. The Generals lead the series 2-1 and overall season series 8-5.

Michael Bowman (3-6) was a late addition as the starter for Huntsville and logged a quality start, earning the win. Bowman tossed six innings and surrendered two runs and five hits, striking out one and walking one. James Gillheeney (0-2) took the loss for Jackson, allowing six runs and eight hits in six innings. Gillheeney struck out two and walked one in his third Double-A outing this season. Santo Manzanillo saved his second game for Huntsville after giving up the game winning hit to the Generals on Thursday night.

Rich Poythress upped his batting streak to eight straight after a 1-for-4 night at the dish. Johermyn Chavez hit his 13th home run and was 2-for-4 to lead the Generals offensively. Kjeldgaard, Zelous Wheeler and Sergio Miranda had two hits each for the Stars.

Zealous Wheeler launched the Stars first home of the series in the top of the second inning and Huntsville led 1-0. The home run was Wheeler's fifth in Double-A this season.

Brock Kjellgaard hit the first of his two homers in the top of the fourth inning; a 2-run shot that placed the Stars on top 3-0.

The Generals got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo blast by Johermyn Chavez. The 13th homer of the season for Chavez made the score 3-1.

Kjellgaard hit his second home run, another 2-run blast in the top of the sixth inning. Matt Cline, later in the inning drove in Zelous Wheeler and Huntsville opened the game up and led 6-1.

Jackson began to chip away at the lead, cutting the deficit to 6-2 in the sixth inning with an RBI ground out by Scott Savastano. Then, in the eighth Savastano blasted a solo home run that made the score 6-3.

The Generals, continue their 10-game homestand and five-game series with Huntsville at Pringles Park Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for 2:05 pm. RHP Steven Hensley (3-6, 5.52) makes the start for the Generals against LHP Dan Merklinger (7-7, 4.32) for Huntsville.
