Huntsville Stars News Release

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Huntsville Stars (57-60) took command of Saturday night's game with three deep shots to beat the Jackson Generals (60-58), 6-3.

Zelous Wheeler opened the scoring in the second with a solo-home run. Brock Kjeldgaard knocked in Wheeler on both of his home runs while doubling his season homer total, now at four.

All three home runs came off of Generals starter James Gillheeney (0-2) as he went six innings and gave up all six runs on eight Huntsville hits.

Michael Bowman (4-10) worked quickly in the start for the Stars with plenty of run support. Bowman allowed just two runs on five hits, including a solo home run to Johermyn Chavez.

Jim Henderson also gave up a solo home run in his return from Nashville (AAA). Scott Savastano took him deep in the eighth inning. Santo Manzanillo shut the door with a quick ninth for his second save.

The Stars have snapped a five-game skid and will look to even the series in Sunday's afternoon start at 2:05 CST p.m. LHP Dan Merklinger (7-7, 4.32 ERA) will take the mound for the Stars. Sunday's game will be broadcast on ustream.tv/channel/huntsvillestars as well as MiLB Gameday Audio. Don't forget to keep up with the Stars on Facebook, Twitter and the official newsletter.
