Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL - The Captains picked up yet another win with some added insurance late to close out their fifth straight win over the Chiefs at Dozer Park on Saturday night.

Lake County was kept quiet for three frames courtesy of Chiefs starter Austin Love, who once again had a solid outing, but in the fourth the Captains capitalized. Christian Cairo continued his recent tear in Peoria by launching an RBI triple to kick off the scoring in the ballgame. The next batter Raynel Delgado stepped in and laced a single to send Cairo to the dish and the Captains suddenly found themselves up by a pair.

Peoria went to work offensively in the fifth inning and loaded the bags against Captains starter Doug Nikhazy, who was relieved by Nathan Ocker. The right-hander was greeted by Mack Chambers who popped out to left field to end any further Chiefs threat.

The Chiefs cracked the scoreboard in the fifth when Todd Lott ran into a fastball and hammered his first home run in a Chiefs uniform in 2022. His blast made it a 2-1 game and it appeared as if the Chiefs once again had life.

However, the Captains kept their foot on the gas in the seventh when Jhonkensy Noel singled in the third Lake County run. They tallied another run for good measure in the top of the ninth on a weakly hit ground ball that eluded the glove of Ramon Mendoza and skipped down the left field line.

The 4-1 score went final as the Chiefs went down quietly in the bottom of the ninth inning. Peoria will attempt to salvage the series finale tomorrow night at 6:35 when Logan Gragg takes the ball at Dozer Park. All veterans and active duty military personnel can redeem a free ticket at the box office prior to tomorrow's game with a valid ID.
