Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped an 8-3 decision to Shreveport-Bossier Tuesday night at Haymarket Park. Lincoln falls to 46-40 on the season, 17-21 in the second half.
The Saltdogs opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning by Argelis Nunez, but that was the only run they managed in six innings against Captains starter Osvaldo Rodriguez (11-3). Shreveport-Bossier took the lead in the second inning with a pair of runs against Lincoln starter Chris Cullen (4-5). The Captains then broke the game open, scoring four more runs in the third inning. Cullen recovered to finish his night with a pair of scoreless innings, but Shreveport-Bossier added two runs in the sixth innings against the 'Dogs bullpen for an 8-1 lead. Lincoln got a pair of runs back in the seventh inning on a two-run double by Rafael Alvarez, his 27th two-bagger of the season.
Alvarez finished the night 2-for-3 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored. Nunez's RBI was his team-best 76th of the season for Lincoln, which finished with just five hits on the night. Despite the loss, the Saltdogs maintain a two-game lead in the wild-card race. However, Wichita swept a doubleheader over Sioux City, moving the Wingnuts half a game ahead of Sioux Falls in the North Division race. If Sioux Falls does not win the division race, Lincoln cannot make the playoffs via the wild card.
The two teams play the rubber match of their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05. Right-hander John James is scheduled to take the mound for the Saltdogs.
