Sing Ties Team Record and Lifts Pheasants to 4-1 Win

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Brandon Sing belted his 27th home run of the year on Tuesday night, tying a Sioux Falls team record and providing the difference in the Pheasants' 4-1 victory over the St. Paul Saints. The Pheasants snapped a four-game losing streak.
Sing matched the record set by Jermaine Swinton in 2001. The three-run blast cleared the left field stadium perimeter in the fourth inning for a 3-0 Sioux Falls lead. Sing also doubled in his 2-for-4 performance, giving him 999 professional hits. His career began in 1999 with the Chicago Cubs organization.
Sing earlier broke his own American Association record of 22 home runs in a season, set in 2008 with the Pensacola Pelicans.
Pheasants starter Chris Salberg (10-1) pitched six effective innings for his first win in more than a month. He became the third pitcher to post 10 victories this season. Salberg scattered four hits and one run while striking out six. He walked three.
Beau Torbert also went 2-for-4 and drove in a run in the sixth inning for a 4-1 lead, after the Saints' Josh Burrus doubled in a run in the top of the sixth.
The Pheasants bullpen - Ryan Grant, Brandon Rapoza and Aaron Cotter -- pitched three scoreless innings of relief. Cotter notched his league-best 22nd save. He allowed back-to-back singles in the ninth but induced Josh Alley to bounce into the game-ending double play. Cotter has not allowed a run in 12 consecutive appearances dating back to July 13.
The Pheasants entered the evening tied for first place in the second-half division race with the Wichita Wingnuts, but Wichita swept a doubleheader against Sioux City to grab a half-game lead. It is the first time this season the Pheasants have not been in first place.
The Pheasants' three-game series with the St. Paul Saints continues at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17. It's Ladies Night, where women of any age can purchase a ticket for just $5.
