Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

Grand Prairie, TX. The El Paso Diablos scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 4-4 tie and defeat the Grand Prairie AirHogs, 9-4, Tuesday night at QuikTrip Park. The Diablos snapped a six-game losing streak to the AirHogs.

It appeared the AirHogs would get out of the ninth inning allowing only one run but errors by Antoin Gray and Ernie Banks on consecutive ground balls helped open the flood gates. The Diablos also added a two-run single in the inning.

An inning earlier, the AirHogs had the go-ahead run thrown out at home by El Paso center fielder Jeff Vincent. Vincent fielded a single by Robert Perry and threw a perfect strike to catcher Adam Deleo to nail Aaron Garza at the plate. Garza was trying to score from second.

It was Deleo who helped the AirHogs take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Deleo had two throwing errors in the inning trying to pick runners off base.

His first allowed Perry, who stole second, to go to third when his throw sailed into center field. Moments later, after Gray singled home Perry, Deleo tried to pick Gray off first but threw the ball down the right field line.

Gray went to third on the play and later scored on a two-run single by Michael Hollimon.

El Paso came back with three runs in the third to tie it highlighted by Arnoldo Ponce's two-run home run to left center. Greg Porter, however, hit his 19th home run of the season off the green wall in center to give the AirHogs a 4-3 lead after three innings.

The Diablos tied it in an unusual way in the sixth when Bryon Smith scored all the way from second base on a wild pitch by Ben Paxton. The ball skipped in front of the plate and catcher Danny Jordan and went to the backstop.

As Jordan turned to chase after the ball he suddenly fell to the ground in pain holding his left shoulder. By the time Paxton could retrieve the ball Smith easily scored.

Jordan finished the inning and batted the next inning but eventually left the game. His status is unknown.

The second game of the three-game series is Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at QuikTrip Park. Tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased in-person at the QuikTrip Park Box Office, located at 1600 Lone Star Parkway, Grand Prairie, TX 75050, by calling 972.504.9383 or visiting www.airhogsbaseball.com.
