West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps fell silent on offense as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers enjoyed dominant pitching in a 4-1 loss in front of 6,656 fans Saturday night at LMCU Ballpark.
The Whitecaps collected just four hits while striking out ten times and finishing 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position as the Timber Rattlers tallied three runs in the eighth inning to secure the series victory.
Wisconsin grabbed the lead in the second as Terence Dotson roped an RBI single to take the 1-0 advantage. That was the only run Whitecaps starter Carlos Pena allowed, going six innings with a pair of strikeouts as Timber Rattlers starter Tyler Woessner tossed 6.1 scoreless frames before 'Caps outfielder Chris Meyers delivered an RBI double in the seventh to tie the game at 1-1. Wisconsin rallied in the eighth inning, as Alex Hall pounded a two-run double before Eduardo Garcia scored him with an RBI double to forge Wisconsin ahead 4-1. The Whitecaps failed to rally as Wisconsin closer Luis Amaya retired six of the last seven 'Caps hitters to slam the door and earn the 4-1 win.
The Timber Rattlers improve to 22-33 as the Whitecaps fall to 29-27. Amaya (2-2) secures his second win of the season, going 2.2 shutout innings with two strikeouts as 'Caps reliever Angel Reyes (1-2) suffers his second loss, allowing three runs through an inning pitched. Beau Brieske was sharp in his second rehab appearance, tossing a scoreless seventh inning. Meyers collected two of the four West Michigan base hits, including a double. The Whitecaps have lost seven of their last eight games.
