
Hence Secures First Professional Win, Chiefs Steamroll Sky Carp 10-2

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs guaranteed themselves a series victory Saturday while Cardinals No.2 prospect Tink Hence secured his first professional win in front of 4,015 at Dozer Park.
A three-run third inning gave the Chiefs the lead for good. Victor Scott led off the inning with a single off Beloit starter Zach King. After a Nathan Church single, Aaron McKeithan tied the game at one with a SAC fly. After a flyout, Osvaldo Tovalin doubled home Church to put the Chiefs ahead 2-1. Ramon Mendoza later made it 3-1 with an RBI triple.
Scott and Church combined to go 7-for-8 with Scott notching a career-high four hits. Church now has 71 hits on the year to lead the Midwest League. Scott is behind him with 62 knocks. The Peoria center fielder also stole three bases in tonight's game, making it the fifth time this year Scott has stolen three bags in a contest.
The offense helped Tink Hence earn his first career win. The right-hander went five innings allowing just one run on five hits, striking out three He's allowed just two earned runs over his last three starts..
Beloit scored the first run of the game in the opening inning. Davis Bradshaw led off with a double and Kahlil Watson followed with a single. Jacob Berry then rolled into a double play which allowed Bradshaw to score to put Beloit up 1-0.
After the Watson single, Hence allowed just four baserunners, throwing only 59 pitches in his outing.
The Chiefs took a four-run lead in the fourth. Scott singled and Church brought him in with a double. After a McKeithan single, Jimmy Crooks hit a SAC fly to make it 5-1.
King allowed five runs over his 4.1 innings of work, allowing eight hits with three walks and one strikeout.
The Peoria bullpen locked it down after Hence departed. Nathanael Heredia and Roy Garcia combined for three scoreless innings, allowing just one baserunner.
The Chiefs busted the game open in the bottom of the eighth scoring five runs. Church hit another RBI double, this time driving in two runs. McKeithan drove in Church with a single to make it 8-1. One batter later, Crooks launched a home run to right to make it 10-1.
Church and Crooks both drove in three runs to pace the club. Crooks has homered in three consecutive games and is now tied for the team lead in home runs.
Beloit scratched a run across in the ninth against Edgar Manzo on a Joe Mack RBI single. The Sky Carp had seven hits with Mack going 3-for-3.
Peoria has won three in a row and five of its last six. They are now 27-29 as Beloit drops to 24-31. The final game of this series is Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 P.M.
