Summary
Joey Cantillo strikes out 13 over five scoreless while the Akron RubberDucks work eight walks to down the Portland Sea Dogs 6-0 on a rainy Wednesday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks jumped on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when Aaron Bracho launched a two-out solo home run into the Cutwater Tiki Terrace to make it 1-0 Akron.
Mound Presence
The early Akron run was all Cantillo needed to back his masterful start. The left-hander allowed just one hit with two outs in the first and walked just two on his way to five scoreless innings and 13 strikeouts. Zach Hart made his 2023 debut punching out two over a scoreless inning. Mason Hickman followed with a scoreless inning striking out one. Randy Labaut struck out the side in eighth. Bradley Hanner worked a scoreless ninth.
Duck Tales
Akron kept the offense rolling in the fifth when Angel Martinez tripled into right field to bring home Bracho and make it 2-0 RubberDucks. The sixth inning saw the RubberDucks break the game open. Johnathan Rodriguez singled home Jose Tena to make it 3-0 Akron. Mike Amditis, Julian Escobedo and Angel Martinez all worked bases loaded walks to plate three more and push the lead to 6-0 RubberDucks.
