Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Hartford, CT) - Ethan Wilson homered for the second-straight day as Reading's bats exploded in a 12-6 win over the Hartford Yard Goats on Wednesday night. The game was called after five innings due to rain.

The Yard Goats came out of the gate firing in the bottom of the first. With two on base, Hunter Goodman launched his sixth home run of the season to put Hartford up 3-0. Bret Boswell then doubled home Drew Romo to increase the Yard Goats' lead to 4-0, all off of Reading starter David Parkinson.

But, the Fightin Phils wasted no time responding. With bases loaded in the top of the second, new R-Phils Drew Ellis singled to score both Ethan Wilson and Matthew Kroon to cut the deficit in half. The next batter, Cody Roberts doubled to score Oliver Dunn. That was followed by a Garrett Whitley sacrifice fly that scored Ellis, then a Madison Stokes single to score Roberts, which put Reading up 5-4.

The Fightin Phils bats kept up in the third. Wilson crushed a home run to deep right field and Ellis later homered in the inning to make it 8-4 Reading. Wilson's home run was his second-straight night going deep and in the second-straight series, he's homered in back-to-back games.

Reading tacked two more runs on in the fourth. Kroon hit a pop fly to shallow right field that was dropped by Hartford second baseman Eddy Diaz. The error allowed both Carlos De La Cruz and Johan Rojas to score and increase the margin to a 10-4 Fightin Phils lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Hartford got two runs back thanks to a two-run home run from Hunter Goodman, his seventh homer of the season. The long ball from Goodman made it a 10-6 game.

After Madison Stokes and Whitley reached base in the fifth, Carlos De La Cruz smoked a single to left field to score both runners and put Reading up 12-6. After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, the game entered a rain delay with the R-Phils batting in the top of the sixth. The game would be called about an hour later, giving the R-Phils a rain-shortened 12-6 victory.

Cristian Hernandez earned the win for Reading, after throwing 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Hernandez improves to 1-0 on the season. Case Williams suffered the loss after allowing eight earned runs to drop to 1-4 on the season.

With the win, Reading improves to 8-14 on the season, while Hartford drops to 11-10 with the loss. The series continues tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. RHP Tyler Phillips is slated to start for Reading, and he will go opposite RHP Mike Ruff for Hartford. You can watch the action on MiLB TV or the Bally Live App.

Reading returns home Tuesday, May 9, at 11 a.m. as the Fightin Phils welcome the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to FirstEnergy Stadium. Tickets to all games are still available and can be purchased at rphils.com/tickets, by calling 610-370-BALL or in person at the Customers Bank Ticket Office.
