Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Kyle Ruwe befuddled the RailCats for eight innings on Thursday night, boosting the Canaries to a 5-2 win over Gary SouthShore. The RailCats fall to 34-24 on the season, Sioux Falls improved to 24-35.
Ruwe rarely broke 84 miles per hour with his fastball and allowed nine hits and just one walk to pick up his seventh win of the season.
Ryan Babineau hit his second homerun of the season, a two-run shot off the Canaries starter in the top of the first. It would be the only runs he allowed as the RailCats stranded eight runners on base in the game.
The Canaries offense cut the lead in half with an RBI single by Jared Clark in the bottom of the third. Later in the inning Sioux Falls had the bases loaded, but Alain Quijano struck out Jake Taylor on three pitches to end the inning.
In the fourth, the Canaries grabbed the lead on a two-run double by Anthony Trajano into the corner in right field to make it 3-2.
Sioux Falls added two more in the sixth after Alain Quijano left the game. Quijano caught a pop up by Anthony Trajano in foul ground and motioned for the trainer to the mound before throwing his next pitch. Alain was removed from the game and replaced by Boomer Potts who walked Cory Morales then gave up a two-run single to Marcos Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was caught in a run down between first and second and tagged out by Dany Pulfer to end the inning after both Nate Bauman and Cory Morales crossed the plate to make it 5-2.
Quijano failed to complete six innings for the first time since June 3rd against Amarillo. He allowed five runs (4 earned) on eight hit and one walk in five and two thirds inning.
Alan DeRatt delivered a scoreless ninth to pick up his 13th save of the season.
The RailCats had their opportunities early against Ruwe. They couldn't take advantage of leadoff doubles in each the second and third inning. They also had runners on first and second with nobody out in the fifth and couldn't muster a run.
