Cabrera Hams It up with Two Homers as Saints Win 8-5

ST. PAUL, MN (July 18, 2013) - After sitting out Wednesday night with a bad hamstring Willie Cabrera was questionable going into Thursday night's game against the Grand Prairie AirHogs. The hamstring didn't seem to bother him as he belted two, two-run homers helping the Saints to an 8-5 win at Midway Stadium in front of 5,299.

In the first inning Cabrera made it known he felt good enough to DH. After Brad Boyer reached on an infield single, Cabrera hit his first homer of the night and eighth of the season, to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.

The lead didn't last long as the AirHogs tied it in the second when Palmer Karr Jr. singled and scored on Austin Newell's double to make it 2-1. With two outs Angel Flores reached on an error that scored Newell to tie the game at two.

In the bottom of the second, Dan Kaczrowski who collected just his second four hit game of his career on Wednesday night, drove his third homer of the season over the left-center field wall, to give the Saints a 3-2 lead.

In the third the AirHogs took the lead as Ryan Pineda walked and moved to second on a single by Brian Myrow. With one out Karr Jr. singled home Pineda to tie the game at three. After a walk to Newell loaded the bases Kenny Held's groundout scored the go ahead run giving the AirHogs a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth the Saints tied the game at four as Jose Hernandez advanced to second on a two base throwing error and scored on a Kaczrowski single. Kaczrowski went 3-4 with a homer, two RBI and a run scored.

The game remained tied until the seventh when Andres Rodriguez hit a solo blast to left, his eighth of the season, off of reliever Mikey Mehlich to give the AirHogs a 5-4 lead.

Willie Cabrera came calling again in the bottom of the seventh. After Boyer singled Cabrera hit another two-run blast, his ninth of the season, to give the Saints a 6-5 lead. Cabrera finished the night 3-5 with two homers, four RBI and two runs scored.

The Saints tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth when Donald Blunt doubled and moved to third on an Adam Frost single. Frost would steal second, his third of the game tying a Saints franchise record which had been done by nine other players, the last one was Jose Hernandez on May 17, 2012 vs. the New Jersey Jackals. Both runners scored when Joey Becker hit a deep fly to right that was dropped by the right fielder.

The same two teams meet Friday evening in a double header with game one beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Midway Stadium. Both games are scheduled for seven innings with game two beginning 30 minutes at the conclusion of game one. It is Who's On First with a post-game fireworks show presented by Xcel Energy. The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
