
Wingnuts' Winning Streak Hits Lucky 13

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (41-18) won their 13th consecutive game on Thursday night, beating the Lincoln Saltdogs (32-27) 4-3 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, John Rodriguez doubled home Jake Kahaulelio from first base with the tying run. On the next pitch, C.J. Ziegler ripped a double down the left field line that gave the Wingnuts a 4-3 lead.
Wingnuts' starter Justin Klipp earned the win, allowing three earned runs on eight hits over six and two-thirds innings. Klipp struck out six and did not issue a walk.
Nick Walters relieved Klipp in the top of the seventh with the tying run on third base and two outs. Walters struck out Stephen Douglas on three consecutive sliders to end the inning and keep Wichita in front by one run.
Andrew Aizenstadt kept the lead intact through the top of the eighth, striking out Brian Wuest to strand the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position.
Lincoln Holdzkom pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to earn the save. Holdzkom struck out Douglas for the final out of the game and stranded the tying run on first. It was Holdzkom's first save since July 25th, 2007 while pitching for the Double-A Eastern League's Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox).
Curt Smith hit a two-out, RBI double in the top of the first to give Lincoln an early 1-0 lead.
Wichita tied it in the bottom of the second. Brent Clevlen drew a one-out walk and went to second on a groundball to second base from Abel Nieves. Cole Armstrong pulled a single to right field that scored Clevlen with the Wingnuts' first run.
Ziegler led off the bottom of the fourth with a double and was followed by Clevlen who drew another walk. Ziegler and Clevlen pulled off a double steal of third and second respectively with Ziegler eventually scoring on a groundout to second from Armstrong.
Mike Coles hit a two-out, two-run homer down the left field line in the top of the fifth to give the Saltdogs a brief 3-2 lead.
Lincoln starter Stephen Bougher took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits over seven innings. Bougher walked two and struck out three.
Rodriguez's double in the bottom of the fifth moved him past Josh Horn (2009-11) for the most RBI in franchise history (126).
