CALGARY HITMEN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES RETURN OF $50,000 COMMUNITY RESTORATION
January 9, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
GRANT Financial grant application closes February 5
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club is pleased to announce the Calgary Hitmen Foundation Community Restoration Program is returning this season. The initiative, unveiled last year, will once again see the Foundation award a $50,000 grant to a recreational improvement project in one local neighbourhood or community within 50km of Calgary city limits. Communities registered as a not-for-profit organization or registered charity currently refurbishing an outdoor space or fundraising for a new project are invited to visit HitmenHockey.com for grant application and eligibility information. Examples of this include parks, playgrounds, outdoor rinks and arenas.
The application process begins today, Monday, January 8, and will close in four weeks on Monday, February 5. From the submissions, three communities will be named finalists on Thursday, February 8. The top candidates will then be asked to create a video showing why fans should cast a ballot for their project. The online voting period will take place from February 17 - March 2 on HitmenHockey.com. The community project with the most votes will be awarded the $50,000 grant.
"We were amazed by the thoughtfulness and creativity that went into all the responses we received last year," said Hitmen vice president and alternate governor Mike Moore. "Our organization is passionate about supporting the communities that support us and we encourage neighbourhood groups to participate and apply for the opportunity to receive this grant."
The Calgary Hitmen Foundation has been giving back to education and wellness programs in the community and surrounding area for over 15 years. The heart of the Foundation is the scholarship program which funds the post-secondary education of Hitmen players and alumni. In addition, support is provided to grassroots sport organizations and health initiatives including Camp Kindle through Kids Cancer Care Foundation, the Rainbow Society, CBE Fuel for School and Distress Centre's ConnecTeen. To date, the Foundation has supported Calgary and area agencies with over $2.8 million.
