Calgary Hitmen and CMHA Calgary Team up to Raise Awareness for Mental Health

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) - Calgary Region are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during this Sunday's Family Game presented by Calgary Co-op at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Hitmen game against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Feb. 10 at 4:00 p.m. will feature:
* A CMHA-run kiosk so fans can learn more about mental health,
* Videos featuring Hitmen players talking about the importance of mental health,
* Public address announcements about mental health,
* It's Sunday Funday presented by Ricky's All Day Grill with face painters and prize giveaways,
* Post-game family skate that is FREE with a game ticket.
The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Calgary Hitmen and CMHA - Calgary Region to implement Talk Today. Talk Today provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the WHL.
A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental health training specific to suicide prevention. Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.
"We're extremely grateful to partner with the Calgary Hitmen to host Talk Today to increase public awareness and to promote mental health in this community", said Laureen MacNeil, Executive Director of CMHA - Calgary Region. "The Calgary Hitmen players and coaches are seen as leaders in the Calgary community. Through their leadership and initiative in completing the Talk Today program, not only will the players and coaches be encouraged to speak openly about mental health and suicide, those who look up to the Hitmen will know that they are not alone if they are struggling."

"Talk Today is an important program for our players and organization to champion because it encourages a healthy dialogue for those who need someone to talk to.
