Swift Current Broncos News Release

The Swift Current Broncos debuted their exclusive Hockey Day in Canada theme jerseys ahead of their matchup against their East Division foes, the Saskatoon Blades at the Innovation Credit Union i-Plex on Saturday night.

Blades' forward Riley McKay and Broncos' defenceman Matt Stanley showcased early fireworks as the two veterans dropped the mitts and landed five minutes each for fighting as part of a very physical first period.

Broncos rookie goaltender Isaac Poulter was locked in early on as the Winnipeg, MB product denied all 12 Saskatoon shots sent his direction in a scoreless first.

The game didn't see its first goal until halfway through the second period when Gary Haden scored yet again to make it 1-0 Saskatoon. Haden recorded four goals the last time Saskatoon was in the i-Plex back in January.

Swift Current responded very quickly as Tyler Lees gathered his second goal of the season 43 seconds later to draw the Broncos back even 1-1.

The third period got away from the Broncos as McKay scored the go-ahead goal at the 8:34 mark. The Broncos pressed hard for the tying goal but goals from Saskatoon's Max Gerlach and Cyle McNabb put the game out of reach.

Shots on goal were 38-25 in favour of Saskatoon. The Blades power play went 0/2 while the Broncos finished 0/1.

Swift Current gets back in game action on Wednesday, February 13th when they host the WHL's best Prince Albert Raiders for CMHA night at the i-Plex. Puck drop is at 7:00pm CT.
