Lexington Legends News Release

Starter Tanner Bushue retired the first 16 batters in the game and Kirk Clark pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his record-tying 21st save as the Lexington Legends held on to beat the Rome Braves 3-1 Tuesday night in Rome.

Bushue did not allow a baserunner until one out in the sixth inning when Jake Hanson lined a clean single to center field. In seven innings, Bushue allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jake Goebbert doubled with two outs, and came home when third baseman Chris Curley made a throwing error after fielding a ground ball hit by Kody Hinze.

Lexington added a run in the second on a walk to Jiovanni Mier, a single by Miguel Arrendell and an RBI single by Jose Altuve. In the fourth, walks to Mier and Arrendell, followed by a single by Grant Hogue, gave Lexington a 3-0 lead.

Hanson homered to lead off the eighth inning against Lexington reliever Wander Alvino. Ramon Flores doubled with two outs, but was left stranded at second.

Clark took over in the ninth. Riann Spanjer-Furstenburg led off with a single. Christian Betancourt's pop fly to short center field dropped in for an apparent hit, but Hogue threw to Clark covering second base to get a forceout on Spanjer-Furstenburg. Joe Leonard followed with a base hit to put runners at first and second, and Betancourt later moved to third after a fly ball to right field hit by Edward Solcedo. Clark then struck out Hansen for the final out. Clark is now tied with Daniel Freeman, who saved 21 games for the Legends in 2003.

Bushue (5-5) was the winning pitcher. Rasmus (6-6) took the loss. The series continues with a 1 p.m. game Wednesday in Rome.
