Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - Reel Hardball, a fledgling new film distribution company dedicated exclusively to quality baseball-themed content, will be providing a unique Latin American experience Tuesday night at The Joe.
The one-year old company, which has already forged partnerships with heavyweights like the MLB Network and Golden Corral Restaurants, has expanded its distribution pipeline to include outdoor screenings at select minor league ballparks around the country. The Goldklang Group, who own/operate the Charleston Riverdogs will be hosting their first ever outdoor screening event on the evening of Saturday July 24th. This event will also take place at additional Goldklang Group venues in Hudson Valley (NY) and St Paul (MN). The gate will open at 5pm in Charleston and the partners in Reel Hardball are expecting the best
"These days, anywhere with a good audio visual system has the makings to be a wonderful place to see a movie," says Brett Rapkin, a partner in Reel Hardball as well as an accomplished independent film and television producer. "Having made and marketed two of my own independent baseball films previously, it was clear that there was a need for a distribution company that could fill this niche. There is a long and successful history to baseball and the movies. Let's just pray it doesn't rain."
The evening's program will feature Rapkin's film SPACEMAN: A Baseball Odyssey, which follows Red Sox legend Bill "Spaceman" Lee on a colorful weeklong barnstorming trip to the island of Cuba. The film received critical acclaim at numerous festivals and recently made its national premiere on the MLB Network.
Other exciting activities will include the "Fungoman Challege" on field, where young and old will have a chance to pickup ground balls in the infield and layout for pop ups in the outfield. The "Wheelhouse Walk-off" will test hitting prowess in the batting cage, while participants have their swing filmed and broken down courtesy of former Yankees and Pirate's catcher Don Slaught and his software company, RightView Pro.
"All along we had a vision to make this about more than just a film screening," says Rapkin. We want fans to come and experience the ballpark and a night at the movies in an entirely different way."
Admission is $5 and includes giveaways courtesy of MLB Network and Golden Corral. Kids under 12 get in free.
