Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - For the second time this season, a member of the Kannapolis Intimidators has been recognized with a league-wide award. Intimidators right-handed pitcher Andre Rienzo has been named the South Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 12th to July 18th.
Rienzo made two starts during the week of July 12th to July 18th. He started in a game on July 12th against the Augusta GreenJackets on the road and allowed only four hits in six innings with one walk and a career high ten strikeouts. He also made a start on July 18th against the Lakewood BlueClaws at home in the second game of a doubleheader and tossed the league's ninth complete game shutout of the 2010 season. He went the full seven innings, allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five. Rienzo has a current 15-inning shutout streak and has fanned a total of 30 batters in his last four starts, 25 innings.
Rienzo, born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was signed in November of 2006 and made his professional debut the following season with the Dominican Summer League White Sox. He returned to the DSL for a very successful 2008 campaign where he had a 1.30 ERA in 40.2 innings before making his United States debut in 2009 with the Bristol White Sox. Over 54.1 innings, Rienzo had a 4.14 ERA with 49 strikeouts last season. After a slow start to his 2010 season, Rienzo has established himself as an up-and-coming prospect within the White Sox system going into the sixth inning or later in six of his last seven starts.
The Intimidators are enjoying their 16th season of play as an organization. This organization has produced such talents as Jimmy Rollins, Gordon Beckham and NFL star Ricky Williams.
