Bunts Gone Wild, Tourists Push Past Greeensboro

(Asheville, NC) The Tourists were held to just one hit through the first five innings before escaping with a 3-0 win on Wednesday. Thomas Field and Scott Robinson executed consecutive bunt hits as Asheville scored all three runs in the sixth inning Alan DeRatt, Isaiah Fronberger, Michael Marbry and Adam Jorgenson combined for the11th shutout of the season. Jorgenson picked up his league leading 25th save of the season. The win moves Asheville to 63-63 overall and a .500 team for the first time since May 6th.

Starting pitcher Alan DeRatt hurled four scoreless innings with five strikeouts in a no decision. DeRatt allowed just three hits and struck out Emilio Ontiveros with the bases loaded to end the fourth inning. Isaiah Froneberger (3-3) backed DeRatt with 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win.

Beau Seabury began the sixth inning with a single to right field. Thomas Field then reached on a bunt single, moving Seabury to second base. Scott Robinson followed with a bunt single and scored Seabury on a throwing error from third baseman Paul Gran to give Asheville a 1-0 lead. Jimmy Cesario bounced the next pitch to second to score another and Kiel Roling delivered an RBI single to left to plate Robinson for the third and final run.

Michael Marbry entered with two runners on and one out in the seventh inning and struck out two batters to end the frame. Marbry worked 1 2/3 scoreless on one hit before Jorgenson entered to pick up his 25th save of the season. The shutout marks the 11th time the Tourists have held the opposition scoreless this season.

The Tourists have won six of their last seven and will remain at least 2.5 games in first placer with just 12 to play. Carlos Luna will make his second start of the year for Asheville on Thursday at 7:05.
