RiverDogs, CFC Partner to Challenge Guinness Record for Longest Egg Toss
August 26, 2009 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC -- On Sunday, Aug. 30, the Charleston RiverDogs and the Charleston Fun Club will partner for a fundraising "Sunday Funday", as the combined effort will attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the world's largest egg toss with proceeds benefiting the MUSC Children's Hospital.
The event takes place at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, prior to the RiverDogs' scheduled game against the Augusta GreenJackets, which begins at 5:05 p.m, on the penultimate Charleston County Parks & Recreation Family Sunday of the 2009 season.
The current record is 1,422 participating people, which was set on July 4, 2008 in Skagway, Alaska. Skagway is reportedly a coastal town of less than 1,000 people, and the local organizing group recruited cruise ship passengers to assist.
The egg toss consists of two partners tossing an egg to one another, and after each successful catch, the pair takes a step backwards. Should the egg fall, the duo is eliminated and the contest continues until there is one couple remaining.
Fans are encouraged to arrive Sunday at Brittlebank Park at 2 p.m. to register with the Guinness representatives and prepare for the toss. The toss begins at 3 p.m. on the Riley Park field. RiverDogs public address announcer Ken Carrington will serve as emcee, and following the toss, participants will exit the field into the park to stay and enjoy the game.
"This is a family event, so bring the kids, meet Charlie T. RiverDog, get on the field and help us possibly make history," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols.
In order to participate, one must have a RiverDogs game ticket. Tickets are $5 for general admission or $7 for upper reserved and a portion of every ticket sold will be contributed to the MUSC Children's Hospital.
The Charleston Fun Club, is a non profit, fundraising group that raises money for local causes with grass routes efforts.
