Bowling Green, KY (August 26, 2009) - The Bowling Green Hot Rods scored ten times on eight hits in the bottom of the fifth inning of Wednesday night's game at Bowling Green Ballpark, and snapped the West Virginia Power's 12 game road winning streak with a 13-2 victory.

Tony Sanchez drove in West Virginia's first run in the top of the first inning on a double down the right field line with one out in the top of the first inning to score Starling Marte. The Power took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Bobby Spain ripped a single to right field. Jason Corder had trouble picking the ball up in right field and the error allowed Kyle Morgan to score.

The Hot Rods began their comeback in the fourth inning. Justin Reynolds gave Bowling Green their first lead of the series with a three-run homer off Hunter Strickland. Bowling Green's offense exploded in their next frame with a ten run fifth inning. They sent 13 batters to the plate and put the game away. Isaias Velasquez doubled in the first two runs and scored on Reynolds's single, which knocked Strickland out of the game. Robi Estrada smoked an RBI single to plate the next run and scored with Reynolds on Anthony Scelfo's double. Scelfo came home on Tim Beckham's base hit and scored with Kyeong Kang on Jason Corder's triple. Corder scored the tenth run of the inning on Velasquez's groundout. West Virginia plated their final run in the seventh inning on Marte's base hit.

Joe Cruz (5-8) allowed just a pair of runs on three hits over five innings of work in a winning effort. Hunter Strickland (3-2) was tagged for eight runs on 11 hits over four innings and was tagged with the loss. Bowling Green's ten run inning marked the second time this year that an opposing team has scored ten or more runs in an inning against the Power this season. The loss was West Virginia's first on the road since July 19th at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, Georgia.

West Virginia fell to 59-66 overall, and 32-23 in the second half after the loss, while the Hot Rods improved to 62-64 overall and 28-28 in the second half after the win. Bobby Spain turned in the only multi hit game for the Power with a 2-for-4 performance. Tony Sanchez's double in the first inning was their only extra base hit of the night, and it extended his on base streak to 13 games. Starling Marte has hit safely and scored over his last six games.

West Virginia will continue the four game series with the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Bowling Green Ballpark on Thursday night. The Power will start right hander Brian Leach (5-3, 3.32) and the Hot Rods will counter with left hander Frank De Los Santos (4-9, 4.03). The first pitch will be delivered at 7:35 PM.
