Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws and Hagerstown Suns both scored in the first inning, but were held scoreless until the ninth. That's when the BlueClaws broke-through with a run, and held on for a 3-1 win on Wednesday night.
For his seventh straight outing, Justin De Fratus went at least six innings and was again very good. He went seven innings, allowing just one run and struck out ten without walking a batter.
For his second straight outing, Suns starter, Marcos Frias, was equally as good as he went six, allowed one run and struck out five. Neither Frias nor De Fratus factored into the decision.
The BlueClaws (29-27) took the lead in the first inning, as Travis d'Arnaud stretched a single into a double with two outs and then was brought home on a single by Jim Murphy but the lead was short-lived. In the bottom half of the inning, the Suns (18-37) tacked on a run of their own but the team's bats would go quiet.
The game stayed at 1-1 until the top of the ninth inning as the BlueClaws broke the tie with Troy Hanzawa reaching on an error and then being brought home on a single by Anthony Gose. The BlueClaws added another run of insurance before Santo Hernandez pitched the bottom half of the ninth for his third save of the year. This is the first time that Hernandez has worked on back-to-back nights for the BlueClaws this season.
Jacob Diekman (2-0) pitched a scoreless eighth and was the lucky winner of his second game of the season. Patrick Aronld (3-5) allowed the late runs and took the loss.
The BlueClaws have won 13 of the 17 meetings between the two teams on year.
The BlueClaws and Suns will finish their three-game series on Thursday as the BlueClaws will look for the sweep. The BlueClaws will send tall righty Trevor May (2-1) to the mound and the Suns will counter with righty AJ Morris (0-2).
