Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, PA- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, drop a scheduled double header on Sunday August 10, against the Traverse City Beach Bums falling in game one by a final score of 13-8 and dropping game two with a final score of 6-4.
The Beach Bums got things started in their first at bat as former Washington Wild Thing Jovan Rosa picked up one of his two home runs of the game and two of his six RBI's which was good enough to set a new franchise record. The Beach Bums would plate 13 runs in the game off 14 hits which would be good enough for the win even with the late rush from the home team.
The Wild Things offense caught fire late in game one when Jim Vahalik started off the fifth inning with a leadoff double. Scott Kalamar and CJ Beatty both picked up RBI's in the inning giving the Wild Things their first two runs of the game.
Washington's offense exploded for six runs in the sixth inning as pinch hitters Cole Martin and Maxx Garrett had a base clearing double and a three run home run respectively to put Washington back in the game. However, this would be the final push for the Wild Things as they dropped game one 13-8.
Washington got game two started with a solo homerun from left fielder CJ Beatty giving the Wild Things an early 1-0 advantage.
Sean Gusrang quickly answered for the visiting team as he picked up RBI double in the second scoring Kevin Taylor for the Beach Bums first run of the game. Gusrang would have a second RBI double in the sixth for the Beach Bums.
Washington kept things going as they picked up two runs in the second with two outs. Scott Kalamar picked up an RBI double scoring Jose Dore. CJ Beatty added another RBI in the inning bringing Kalamar around to score. Washington added another run in the third when Jim Vahalik picked up an RBI bringing in Carter Bell giving them a 4-1 lead.
The Beach Bums had some late game heroics that included two triples from Yazy Arbelo and Jovan Rosa as they picked four runs in the seventh to give them a 6-4 lead and the win.
The Wild Things are back in action Tuesday, August 12, as they travel to take on the Windy City Thunderbolts for a three game series. Follow the live in-game updates on Twitter @washwildthings. For tickets, call 724-250-9555 or order online at www.washingtonwildthings.com.
