Otters Lose Middle Game of Series vs. Rascals

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - The Evansville Otters (44-28) rallied back from three runs down to tie River City,but the Rascals scored eight of the final nine runs on Sunday for an 11-4 win at Bosse Field.

The win by River City evens up the series heading into the finale on Monday night at 6:35 pm CDT.

With Washington losing both games of a doubleheader, Evansville missed out on a chance to be tied for first place in the Frontier League East Division. The Otters do pull within a half game of the Wild Things heading into Monday's game.

Right-hander Edgar Lopez made his professional debut for the Otters but walked six in just 2.0 innings. River City scored three runs in the second including an RBI single from Steve Carillo, a bases loaded walk to Eric Williams and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Johnny Morales.

Down 3-0, Evansville tied the game in the bottom of the second. Facing Rascals righty Kyle Brady, the Otters recorded three straight hits to even up the score. Shayne Houck's RBI single pulled Evansville within two, Chris Elder's double brought the deficit to one, and Chris Sweeney created a 3-3 tie with his single to left field.

Reliever Blake Monar threw 2.0 scoreless innings in relief and Evan Mott kept the game tied at three until the sixth. The Rascals moved ahead in the seventh with a suicide squeeze bunt from Hector Crespo.

Ahead 4-3, River City scored three more runs in the seventh and four in the eighth for the win.

Outfielder Jeremy Nowak threw a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning on the mound with a pair of strikeouts.

Evansville will have RHP Connor Little on the hill in the final game of the series on Monday. River City will counter with righty Tim Koons (3-3, 5.79 ERA).
