Rockford Aviators News Release
HANOVER PARK, IL - The lead changed hands four times, but the Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, came up just short as they fell 5-4 to the Schaumburg Boomers.
The Aviators got off to another quick start as they scored on an RBI single by Dusty Robinson, who would end up with three RBIs on the day, to take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Starting pitching was less than spectacular for the Aviators today as Cole Green pitched just two innings and allowed three runs on just one hit while walking six batters.
Green walked three batters and hit one in the bottom of the first inning that allowed the Boomers to score on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game up at one.
The Boomers took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the second inning when Joe De Pinto sent an RBI double into right field that allowed Alexi Colon to score from third.
Tanner Witt had his fourth home run of the year in the top of the third, a solo shot that tied the game up at two a piece, but the Boomers responded in the bottom half to retake the lead on a RBI single by Ryan McChesney that made the score 3-2.
Robinson also had his sixth home run of the year with a two-run blast over the left field wall in the top of the fifth inning that gave the Aviators a 4-3 lead.
It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh inning when Brandt Masters, who was making his Aviators debut, allowed two Boomers to score on a pair of RBI singles by Gerard Hall and Jordan Dean that gave the Boomers all the runs they would need to hold on for a 5-4 victory.
The Aviators will have a chance to avoid the sweep tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. at Schaumburg Baseball Stadium. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Meridix Network and the link to the broadcast can be found online at www.rockfordaviators.com.
