
ThunderBolts Defeat Grizzlies in Middle Game of Series

SAUGET, Ill. - The Windy City ThunderBolts posted a season high in runs and hits while defeating the Gateway Grizzlies 17-4 Sunday night at GCS Ballpark.
Windy City (26-47) recorded 21 hits with four each coming from Kyle Robinson and Ryan McIntyre while snapping a six-game losing streak. The loss for Gateway (44-29) snapped a five-game winning streak and moved them a half game back of River City in the West Division.
Windy City scored in each of the first five innings with 14 hits during that stretch.
The ThunderBolts roughed up Grizzlies starting pitcher Aaron Newcomb (9-5) with four runs in the first inning. Robinson brought in two runs on a double and McIntyre blasted a two-run home run.
Michael Allen hit a solo home run in the second inning for Windy City to make the score 5-0.
Michael Wing put the Grizzlies on the scoreboard in the second inning with a solo home run to center field for his 12th of the season.
McIntyre hit his second home run of the game in the third inning and Windy City put up four more runs on four hits in the fourth. Robinson, McIntyre, Davidson Peguero and Max White all drove in runs to make it 10-1.
Newcomb surrendered eight runs on eight hits in three-plus innings of work in the loss.
Gateway recorded three hits and scored one run in the fourth inning on a Michael Johnson RBI single to make the score 10-2.
Johnson finished 3-for-3 with three singles, two runs batted in, two stolen bases and two walks.
After Windy City scored a run in the fifth to make it 11-2, Gateway scored two runs in the sixth to make the score 11-4.
Windy City scored five runs in the seventh inning, four unearned, and one in the ninth inning to finish off the scoring.
Cole Bieser also recorded three hits for Gateway.
The Grizzlies conclude their homestand Monday night against Windy City. Right-hander Tucker Jensen (7-2) will make the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05.
