Durham Bulls News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Bulls shortstop Wander Franco and second baseman Esteban Quiroz both homered as part of a seven-run third inning as Durham won their seventh consecutive contest in a 9-1 victory over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Friday night at 121 Financial Ballpark.

The Bulls have won each of their last seven contests dating back to May 21, outscoring their opponents 49-22 in that span, in addition to wins in nine of their last ten matchups. After two straight shutout victories, Durham pitchers extended their scoreless innings streak to 30 frames until Jacksonville plated their first tally since May 25 with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Bulls RF Ryan Boldt started the scoring by bouncing a two-run double just inside the third base bag and into left field, before immediately coming across on Franco's homer, his fourth of the season, which doubled the lead to 4-0. Quiroz completed the scoring spurt with a three-run blast to right to make it 7-0. 1B Wyatt Mathisen's RBI single in the seventh extended the margin to eight before Jacksonville scored their first and only run.

Franco (2-5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) was joined by CF Josh Lowe (2-5, R), 3B Tristan Gray (2-4, 2 R) and C Joseph Odom (2-4, R) in recording two or more hits. Lowe has collected at least one hit in each of his last seven games, in addition to 15 of his last 16 matchups.

Durham starter Drew Strotman (5.0 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K) earned his fourth win of the year with five shutout frames. Strotman has allowed one run or less in four of his five outings this year. Jumbo Shrimp starter Elieser Hernandez (4.2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 5 K), meanwhile, suffered the defeat.

The two teams are set to continue their six-game series on Saturday evening in Jacksonville, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm ET. RHP David Hess (1-0, 3.09) is expected to toe the rubber for the Bulls, while LHP Braxton Garrett (2-0, 3.68) is slated to get the nod for the Jumbo Shrimp.

The Bulls are set to return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 1 to start a six-game homestand versus the Norfolk Tides. First pitch of that series is scheduled for 6:35pm ET. Tickets for that series, as well as for Durham's six-game homestand with Charlotte between June 8-13, are now available at durhambulls.com.
