Durham Bulls News Release

Fort Mill, SC-Jae Seo (9-4) allowed just an unearned run over seven innings, and the Bulls pounded out 12 hits in an 8-1 win over Charlotte. The Bulls win, coupled with Richmond's 6-5 extra-inning loss to Norfolk, gave Durham its first South Division title since 2003, the last time Durham won the Governor's Cup. Durham will face two-time defending champion Toledo on Wednesday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in a 7 p.m. start.

The first two games are in Durham, and tickets are available on this website.

Seo allowed the lone run to Charlotte in the first inning, but from there allowed just three hits and a walk, and the Bulls would bounce back offensively with clutch two-out hitting. Jon Weber delivered a two-out single in the third inning, scoring Jeremy Owens, who had singled.

In the fifth, Weber doubled to left center with two out, scoring Owens from third for a 2-1 advantage. Jason Pridie followed with a run-scoring hit for a 3-1 lead.

Durham then put the game away with three runs in the sixth, one on an error on a Michel Hernandez ground ball, and two on an Elliott Johnson double that bounced over the center field wall. The Bulls tacked on two more in the ninth on RBI two-out hits from Evan Longoria and Brent Butler. Durham scored five of its eight runs with two out.

Jeff Ridgway and Shawn Camp followed Seo with perfect frames in the eighth and ninth. Durham collected 12 hits, as Jeremy Owens went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and Weber and Longoria each had two hits and two RBI.

The Bulls play their final regular season game on Monday before an off day Tuesday. Mitch Talbot will start. Coverage begins at noon on Labor Day, with a 12:15 first pitch.
