Bullies Announce Plans To Help Give Back

Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - At a press conference today, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies Vice President and General Manager Dan Belisle announced several major community initiatives that the organization will focus on over the second half of the season in an effort to bring residents of South Jersey together to support a number of good causes.

The Boardwalk Bullies will donate a portion of ticket sales from their home game at 7:05PM on Friday, February 11 against the Trenton Titans to support James Beck, the 19-year-old Egg Harbor Township resident who was innocently shot in the head outside King Pin Lanes on January 2 and has since been hospitalized on life support with the bullet still lodged in his brain. $6 of every $12 Mezzanine Level ticket purchased for this game will go directly to the James Beck Foundation. The Bullies hope to raise enough money to help Beck's family with their medical bills and the rehabilitation efforts of their son. Beck recently emerged from a two-week coma on Friday.

The Boardwalk Bullies will also donate a portion of ticket sales from their home game the following afternoon at 2:05PM against the Reading Royals to support the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and their disaster relief efforts surrounding the Asia Tsunami. Again, $6 of every $12 Mezzanine Level ticket purchased for this game will go directly to UNICEF's Tsunami Relief Fund. The December 26 earthquake and tsunami has claimed at least 162,000 lives in 11 countries with thousands of people still unaccounted for. Just $5 to UNICEF can provide an emergency health kit for one person for three months with medical supplies and drugs to cover basic health needs.

"Since our inception, the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies have been at the forefront of community outreach, but in light of the recent events surrounding both James Beck here at home and the Tsunami victims in Asia, now is the time where we need to make our greatest impact," said Belisle. "I implore the residents of South Jersey and Bullies fans from both near and far to take a step back from their daily lives and join our lead in supporting these two very worthwhile causes."

In addition to ticket sales, $1 from each sale of the Bullies 2004-05 game program, "The Bone Collectors", will go to both the James Beck Foundation and UNICEF's Tsunami Relief Fund for the remaining 20 home games. The Boardwalk Bullies Customer Service Department will be taking orders for both fundraisers beginning this afternoon. Flyers and order forms will also be available for any area businesses that would like to distribute the information. For more information or to order your tickets, call (609) 348-7825.

Atlantic City will also culminate the Second Annual "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" at home games on Friday, January 28 and Sunday, January 30 when the Bullies take the ice wearing special commemorative jerseys dedicated to each child in the program. The jerseys will then be auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization dedicatd to providing hats signed by athletes and entertainers to kids who lose their hair due to chemotherapy treatments of cancer, Alfred I. DuPont Hospital For Children in Wilmington, Delaware, and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" pairs Bullies players with children from across the Delaware Valley Region that are currently involved in cancer treatment. They have participated in social events together for the past two months including an ice cream social and a trip to the Jersey Shore Children's Museum.

Belisle also unveiled a program called "Hometown Heroes". Prior to all Friday, Saturday, and Sunday home games beginning in February through the remainder of the regular season, the Bullies will take a moment to honor someone who has gone above and beyond their civic obligations to help someone in need. The "Hometown Hero" will receive both a plaque honoring their achievement and tickets to the game. If you would like to nominate a "Hometown Hero", just point your computer mouse to www.boardwalkbullies.com and click on the link, or email your nomination to dan.weiss@boardwalkbullies.com.

The 21-9-5 first place Bullies will hit the road for a two-game series at Carver Arena against the Peoria Rivermen at 8:30PM on Friday and 4PM on Sunday. Catch both games live on ESPN Radio 1450AM and the SurferNetwork at www.boardwalkbullies.com. Broadcast time begins 20 minutes prior to face-off with "Bullies Countdown."

Atlantic City returns to Historic Boardwalk Hall at 7:05PM on Friday, January 28 against the Trenton Titans for PACK THE HOUSE NIGHT. All seats at Boardwalk Hall are just $6 and the first 4,000 fans through the gates will receive Thunder Sticks courtesy of Benchmark Mortgage.
