Buck Stopped by Buchanan in Reno

Reno, Nev. - Jake Buchanan carried a shutout into the eighth inning, and an early four-run lead for the Reno Aces carried the way to a 5-2 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Saturday night at Greater Nevada Field.

Buchanan - who spent parts of three seasons with Oklahoma City between 2012-14 - kept the Dodgers scoreless over his first seven innings while scattering three singles. The Dodgers did not have a runner reach second base until the eighth inning. After a leadoff single by Edwin RÃ-os in the second inning, Buchanan (9-8) proceeded to retire 19 of the next 20 batters.

The Dodgers (60-49) eventually rallied for two runs with two outs in the eighth inning, ending Buchanan's night. He was charged with two unearned runs over a season-high 7.2 innings on five hits - all singles - with one walk and four strikeouts.

Just like Friday in Tacoma, the Dodgers fell into a 2-0 hole in the first inning. Kevin Cron hit a two-run triple to right-center field to bring home both runs, giving him just the second triple of his five-year pro career.

Ildemaro Vargas added a two-out RBI double in the second inning. Not only did it put the Aces ahead, 3-0, but it also extended Vargas' hitting streak to 30 games. A RBI single by Jamie Westbrook in the third inning made it 4-0.

Some tough luck for the Dodgers saw them fall down by five runs in the sixth inning. Kristopher Negron hit an infield single with one out and then scored on a two-out, broken-bat RBI single by Vargas.

After being silenced all night by Buchanan, the Dodgers were able to break through in the eighth inning thanks to some help by Reno. With a runner on and two out, Connor Joe hit a grounder to third base, but Cron committed a fielding error to allow the inning to continue. Andrew Toles followed with a RBI single to get the Dodgers on the board.

Donovan Solano drew a walk to load the bases, prompting a pitching change by the Aces. Jake Barrett relieved Jake Buchanan, and Alex Verdugo drew a walk to bring in another run and put the tying runs on base. Barrett then struck out RÃ-os to end the rally.

Barrett remained in the game in the ninth inning and retired the side in order to close out the win and earn his sixth save.

Kyle Lobstein made his first start for OKC since July 4 and took the loss. He allowed five runs and nine hits over 5.1 innings, with one walk and three strikeouts. After a tough start that saw Lobstein (0-2) allow four runs and seven hits through the first 15 batters he faced, he finished strong by retiring eight of his final 10 batters.

The Aces (58-54) outhit the Dodgers, 11-5. RÃ-os was the only Dodger with a multi-hit game, while four Aces collected two hits apiece. Saturday marked the sixth time in the last eight games the Dodgers were held to two or fewer runs.
