Comeback falls short for River Cats in Nashville

August 5, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release

NASHVILLE, TN - The Sacramento River Cats (45-68) dropped Sunday evening's ballgame to the Nashville Sounds (57-55) by a final score of 6-4.

Comeback attempts were made in both the seventh and ninth innings as second baseman Miguel Gomez scored two with his seventh double of the year. Then in the ninth, it was outfielder Cesar Puello plating a run with his first hit as a member of the River Cats.

Starting pitcher Daniel Camarena tied his season high with seven strikeouts but allowed five runs on 10 hits and a walk. It was the left-hander's second start since returning to the club from Double-A Richmond, where he made one start.

Monday night's ballgame will feature a duel between two top pitching prospects as the River Cats will send right-hander Shaun Anderson (1-1, 5.00) to the mound to face Sounds lefty Jesus Luzardo, who will be making his Triple-A debut. Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.FM beginning at 7:00 p.m. (PT).

Additional Notes

- Chris Shaw's second-inning three-bagger was the first triple recorded by a River Cats player in exactly a month. Back on July 5, it was Miguel Gomez who tripled in a 10-9 shootout loss in Reno.

- With two runs in the final frame, the River Cats bring their total ninth-inning runs to 39, which is still nine lower than the third for their lowest scoring output by inning.
