Buccaneers lose to Lancers

January 22, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Buccaneers were victimized for an Omaha Lancer power play goal in the 2nd period and couldn't convert all night on the man advantage and ended up falling by a 5-1 score.

Omaha got on the board first at the 10:50 mark of the first period when Michal Joyaux blasted a shot from high in the right circle that was deflected and trickled over to the right of Jan Ruzicka and Mitch Perrault buried it before Ruzicka could slide over. The Buccaneers nearly went into the locker room trailing one to nothing but Zach Jordan created a turnover at neutral ice with a little more than 10 seconds left in the period and brought it into the zone, then after being handcuffed he slid the puck back to Georgy Gorodetsky who beat Omaha goalie Kris Oldham low on the right side and tied the game at the 19:53 mark.

Special teams would prove vital in the second period as Omaha capitalized on a cross checking call and scored 7 seconds later at the 3:36 mark after a faceoff win got the puck to Michael Joyaux who hammered home a shot from the left point. Des Moines had a chance to tie things up on a Mid American Energy power play two minutes late and then right as Nick Rivera came out of the box he was fed the puck for a breakaway and scored at the 7:43 mark of the second period, chasing Ruzicka from the game and bringing in Nick MacNab in relief. MacNab stopped all 10 shots he faced in the second period but couldn't spark Des Moines for any offense in the period.

Austin Lemieux got the Lancers on the scoreboard at the 9:16 mark of the third period shortly after the Lancers had killed off a penalty and Oma would add an empty net goal at 16:52 to finish off the scoring. Nick MacNab ended the night with 16 saves on 17 shots on goal in relief. Up next for the Buccaneers is a home game vs. the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Saturday, January 23rd at Buccaneer Arena.
