Urbandale, IA - Austin Alger recorded three points while Nick Rivera and Mitch Perrault each had two as the Omaha Lancers defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers, 5-1, on Friday night in front of 2,349 at Buccaneer Arena.

Mitch Perrault started the scoring just over midway through the first period. A shot from the right side changed direction and slid to the left side. Perrault dropped to one knee and let a one-timer go that sailed by the blocker of a sprawling Des Moines' Jan Ruzicka to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. The goal came at 10:50 of the first frame with the assists to his line mates, Austin Alger and Austin Lemieux.

Late in the first period, Des Moines forced a turnover and tied the game. At the defensive blue line, the Lancers lost the puck to Zach Jordan who turned back for an opportunity offensively. Jordan dropped the puck back to Georgy Gorodetsky who fired a low wrist shot by goaltender Kris Oldham to tie the game, 1-1, with just 7.9 seconds left in the first period. Gorodetsky's goal was his seventh of the year while Jordan collected his 21st overall point.

The power play came through for Omaha in the second period. Mitch Perrault and Austin Alger set up on the right side wall while on the man advantage. Alger sent a cross-ice pass to an awaiting Michael Joyaux on the left point. Joyaux fired a one-timer on net that beat Jan Ruzicka to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead just 3:36 into the second period. Alger and Perrault picked up the assists on Joyaux's second goal since coming to Omaha.

Later in the middle period, the Lancers killed a penalty and turned it into a goal. After Nick Rivera's penalty expired, Josh French hit the captain with a breakaway pass. Rivera moved in on Ruzicka and deked, sending the puck underneath his leg pads for his 13th of the year and a 3-1 lead for Omaha. Josh French was credited with the only assist, his 14th of the year and 24th overall point.

Following the goal, Des Moines head coach Dave Allison pulled Jan Ruzicka and replaced him with Nick MacNab in net for the Buccaneers. On the night, Ruzicka stopped nine of 12 shots and played a total of 27:43 on the night.

In the third period Austin Lemieux was denied once but didn't give up and collected his own rebound. After gathering the puck to the right of the crease, Lemieux lifted it over the right leg pad of a diving Nick MacNab for his second of the season and a 4-1 lead for the Lancers. Assists on Lemieux's goal were given to Austin Alger and Jake Massie at 9:16 of the third.

Nick Rivera tacked on another goal late in the game with the net empty. Down the left side, Rivera took a pass and sent the puck to the empty net for his second goal of the game and 14th of the year with just over three minutes remaining in the game to give Omaha a 5-1 advantage.

That score held up as the final and Kris Oldham denied 33 of 34 shots for his 11th win of the year.

The Lancers return home tomorrow to face the division rival Lincoln Stars at 7:05 p.m.! It's TeamMates Night presented by the Nebraska Lottery. Can't make it?
