
Thunder Host Phantoms in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - Coming off a win against the Des Moines Buccaneers at home earlier in the week, the Bloomington Thunder are gearing up to welcome the Youngstown Phantoms to U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Friday night at 7 p.m. will be the first meeting in Bloomington since a 1-0 Thunder loss on February 19th, 2015. This will be the third of eight meetings between the Eastern Conference rivals, the most of any opponent Bloomington will see this year. The Thunder (20-10-2-1) are currently tied for third in the East with 43 points, while Youngstown (16-11-3-5) sits in fifth, one spot out of the playoff race.
Friday night is Pucks & Paws Night, as the Humane Society of Central Illinois will be in attendance with dogs available for adoption out on the concourse. Additionally, proceeds from the evening will benefit the Humane Society. Doors open at 6 p.m. and there are $1 draft beers and soft drinks available until puck drop. Jeremy Davies (Northeastern University) picked up three points (1g, 2a) in the win over Des Moines Monday afternoon, adding the game-winning goal in the third period. Logan Lambdin also put up two goals in Monday's win and currently is second on the Thunder with 21 points this season (13g, 8a). The win was truly a team effort as the Thunder battled back down from 2-0 in the first period. Hayden Lavigne (University of Michigan) came in relief and made 26 saves on 27 shots. With the win, the goaltender has 15 this season, bringing him up to third place in the United States Hockey League.
Youngstown went 2-1 in their last three games to stay in the hunt for the post season. Their two wins over the top USHL team, the Dubuque Fighting Saints, places them three points behind the Thunder. However, Youngstown has played two more games to date than the Thunder and are 4-3-0-3 in their last ten outings.
CCM Defenseman of the Week Connor Moore (Boston College) had back-to-back multi-point performances against the Fighting Saints. The Cumming, GA native earned the weekly honor with six points (1g, 5a) and a plus-3 rating. Team leader and rookie Cameron Morrison (University of Notre Dame) picked up five more points (3g, 2a) over the weekend to increase his season total to 40 (20g, 20a). The 6-foot-2 forward leads all rookies in scoring and second to Rem Pitlick (University of Minnesota) in the USHL scoring race.
Both teams have two of the highest point streaks in the USHL this season. Bloomington's Tarek Baker (University of Wisconsin) has the longest active goal streak with 10 goals in seven games. The future Badger is second to Pitlick for the longest goal streak of the season. Youngstown's Chase Pearson (University of Maine, Detroit Red Wings) has a point streak of eight games entering Friday night, the longest active in the league. The Red Wings' draft pick is also second to Pitlick for the longest point streak this season.
NEXT HOME GAME: Saturday, January 23rd - 7 p.m. - This will be the Phantom's second game in Bloomington this season for Ladies Night. Tickets are $10 for any premium seat in the house and kids get in for $5. Throughout the evening vendors will be displaying their products on the concourse including free Massages By Megan. This Saturday night game also includes buy one get one free hot dogs from 6-7 p.m. and all kids 12 &under receive a free hot dog voucher upon entrance. Double drinks of mimosas and sangria will be on sale at the Smokehouse restaurant and various locations on the concourse for $7.50.
