Bruins offense ignites in Portland
November 21, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins and Portland Pirates began their 10-game season series on Saturday night in Maine, with the Black and Gold's offense exploding for a season-high seven goals in a 7-1 victory. Providence had a 3-0 lead after the first period, and never looked back, as they skated to their second win in as many nights. The Bruins are in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with their 7-6-1-2 record (17 points).
Bruin forwards Andy Hilbert (1-4-5) and Patrice Bergeron (2-3-5) each posted five point nights, while center Brad Boyes scored two goals and assisted on another. Forward Leon Hayward, signed by Providence earlier in the day, opened the scoring at 2:57 of the first period, while defenseman Chris Dyment scored his second goal in as many games.
Hilbert's offensive outburst further moved him up in the franchise career record book. His goal was the 74th of his Bruin career, moving him into second place on the franchise list, nine behind the all-time leader, Sergei Zholtok. The five points moved him into a tie with former Bruin Eric Manlow for fifth in overall franchise career scoring, with 74-74-148 totals in 171 games.
Bruin goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 26 shots to improve to 6-6-1 on the season.
The Bruins return home to host the Philadelphia Phantoms on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m.
Prior to Sunday's game, Bruins wives and girlfriends will conclude the team's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Non-perishable food items will be collected in the Dunkin' Donuts Center box office lobby, and donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Food will be collected from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Providence Bruins are pleased to offer the new 3-Game Plan. There are four different 3-Game Plans to choose from, each offering three exciting games for just $24.
Tickets for Sunday, as well as all regular season Providence Bruins games, are available online at www.providencebruins.com, all TicketMaster outlets (401-331-2211 or 508/617-931-2000) and the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence box office.
