Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins and Philadelphia Phantoms began a home-and-home series at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday, with the Phantoms tying the game with 1:20 left in regulation before winning, 4-3 in overtime. The Bruins picked up a point in the standings and remain in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with their 7-6-2-2 record (18 points). The Black and Gold is one point behind the Worcester IceCats and Portland Pirates.
Bruin defenseman Brent Thompson scored his second and third goals of the season, while center Patrice Bergeron added his seventh. Bergeron also had an assist, and had 3-6-9 totals over the weekend. He is tied for second on the team in scoring and 10th in the league with left wing Andy Hilbert (10-8-18), who had an assist in the game. Center Brad Boyes, the team's leading scorer, had an assist, and is tied for seventh in AHL scoring with 8-12-20 totals.
Goaltender Hannu Toivonen, making his 12th straight start, took the loss, while stopping 37 of the 41 shots he faced. Toivonen is two starts short of matching Andrew Raycroft's franchise record of 14 straight starts from January 18 through February 19, 2002.
Hilbert's assist moved him past former Bruin Eric Manlow for fifth place on the franchise career scoring list. In 172 career games as a Bruin, Hilbert has 74-75-149 totals. He is 37 points behind the late Sergei Zholtok, who holds the record with 186 points. Hilbert posted 2-6-8 totals this weekend.
