Swift Current Broncos News Release
SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos (5-13-1-2) were looking to bounce back after a 6-2 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night, but that didn't happen as the Regina Pats (4-14-2-0) rolled to a 6-0 victory.
The Broncos had two breakaways in the opening minutes, but Justin Svenson and Hayden Ostir were turned aside by Max Paddock to keep the game scoreless.
The Pats got on the board shortly after as Riley Krane jumped on a loose puck in front and out waited Isaac Poulter to open the scoring 9:35 into the first.
The Broncos ran into penalty trouble after that and the Pats took advantage.
First was Robbie Holmes as he found a rebound off Poulter's right pad and fired home his first of the game.
Less than a minute later Eric Houk was called for tripping to send the Pats back to the man advantage. Holmes scored another power-play goal, this time redirecting a pass from Carson Denomie through the five hole of Poulter to make it 3-0 after one.
The Pats scored another power-play early in the second period after Ethan Regnier was called for kneeing just 23 seconds into the period. Nikita Sedov found a loose puck in the crease to make it 4-0.
Regina added another late in the period as Holmes completed the hat trick, capitalizing on a turnover in the Broncos zone and lifting a backhander over Poulter's blocker.
Frustration boiled over in the third period as a number of fights broke out. First was Kye Buchanan against Makai Mitchell and then Connor Horning and Carter Massier just a few minutes later.
Ryker Evans then hit Regnier from behind into the boards and was given a five-minute major and ejected. Multiple players came together after the hit, though no fights broke out.
Regina would add another goal late in the game to make the final score 6-0.
The Broncos look to rebound Tuesday night against the Red Deer Rebels on home ice
Announced attendance was 2,036.
