The Kelowna Rockets extended their win streak to three games with a 3-2 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday night at the accesso ShoWare Center in Kent, WA.
Kelowna jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but Seattle responded in the second with two goals 72 seconds apart to tie the game. Hamaliuk found the back of the net again midway in the third period to lift the Rockets past the T-Birds.
Goaltender Cole Schwebius stopped 37 of 39 shots on his way to picking up his first win against his former team and his third of the season.
The Rockets opened the scoring when Ethan Ernst chased the puck down behind the T-Birds net where Seattle netminder, Roddy Ross misplayed the puck. Ernst fed the puck out in front of the wide-open cage to Dallon Wilton (1). Dillon Hamaliuk (7) extended the Rockets lead to two with a heavy wrist shot on the power play.
Former Rocket, Conner Bruggen-Cate (4), beat Scwebius to cut the Rockets lead in half. Twenty-two seconds after Bruggen-Cate's goal, Alex Swetlikoff was called for high sticking. Payton Mount (3) capitalized early in the power play to deadlock the game.
Hamaliuk (8) headed to the net, deflecting his second of the night and the game-winner into Seattle's.
Seattle outshot the Rockets 39-29.
Kelowna will be back in action tomorrow night when they wrap up their two-game road trip against the Tri-City Americans. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, WA.
