Medicine Hat, Alta. - The Swift Current Broncos found their offensive touch in Medicine Hat Saturday night, routing the Tigers 8-2 to finish their pre-season schedule.

The teams played a scoreless opening 20 minutes with the shots reading 9-7 in favour of the Tigers. Isaac Poulter made a bid for the save of the game, sliding to his right and stacking the pads to take away a high-quality scoring chance for the Tigers on a power play.

The second period began with the Broncos shorthanded, but Corson Hopwo was called for tripping just 11 seconds into the second to make it 4-on-4.

Mathew Ward took a centring feed from Cole Nagy behind the Tigers net during 4-on-4 and beat James Venne through the five hole to put the Broncos up 1-0 just 1:28 into the period.

The game remained 1-0 until late in the second when Brady Birnie scored of an end-board rebound while on the power play to extend the Broncos lead to 2-0. Medicine Hat answered quickly to make it 2-1 heading into the third.

With Zach Zahara in net for the Tigers, the Broncos poured on the offence in the final 20 minutes by scoring five unanswered goals.

First was Josh Filmon finishing off a cross-crease pass from Ward and beating Zahara on the blocker side. Just 50 seconds later, Rylan Gould banked the puck off Zahara's skate and into the net to push the Broncos lead to 4-1.

Josh Davies then scored a similar goal to make it 5-1 at the 7:20 mark of the third period. Davies and Braeden Lewis scored just 18 seconds apart later in the third to push the Broncos lead to 7-1, before the Tigers got one back with 2:55 remaining.

Filmon scored his second of the game with 2:13 left to cap off the scoring as the Broncos cruised to the 8-2 victory.

Swift Current is now set to open the regular season on home ice against those same Tigers next Friday, October 1, at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.
