Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos earned a 6-2 win over the Tri-City Americans on Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to three games.
It was the third straight home game for the Broncos who scored six or more goals in all three games.
The Broncos jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period in this one as Rylan Gould and Conor Geekie scored with Gould's coming on the powerplay. Geekies was his 21st of the year, and first as a Bronco.
"He has size, he has speed, he has skill, he's fun to watch," said Regan Darby about Geekie's debut. "He can take command of games; he's a game changer and I think he's going to be a fun player for the fans to watch."
In the second period, the Americans came back with some jump, scoring twice to tie the game as Nick Anisimovicz and Parker Bell got the Americans on the board. The Broncos turned things back on to end the second period as Connor Hvidston restored the Broncos lead just under two minutes after the Americans tied it.
Then in the third, the Broncos scored three more to put the final dagger into Tri-City as Caleb Wyrostok scored at even-strength, Clarke Caswell scored shorthanded, and Josh Filmon scored on the powerplay to give the Broncos to 6-2 lead.
Darby added that after the game was tied at 2-2, the Broncos were able to put the pedal back to the metal to finish off the game, showing the teams development through the year.
"There's some confidence in their game, and they're realizing what it takes to become a playoff team coming down the stretch here," Darby said.
Joey Rocha earned the win in net, stopping 32 of 34. The Broncos were also 2-for-4 on the powerplay, and a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Broncos are on the road to Brandon on Friday to take on the Wheat Kings.
