January 9, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Lethbridge, AB - The Spokane Chiefs continued their Central Swing Road Trip on Tuesday night with a rare contest against former Chief Kooper Gizowski and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. It was a tight battle all night long with chances at both ends and stellar play from the goaltenders.
The first period would finish scoreless but not for lack of chances. Spokane led the shots 13-12 after one.
The second period was much more eventful with Lethbridge jumping out to a two goal cushion. Edwards and Wormald netted for the Hurricanes just a few minutes apart halfway through the frame.
Berkly Catton would answer at the 15:31 mark, to cut the deficit in half.
What a lovely team goal finished off by Berkly Catton - extending his point streak to 13 games!
The top line showed off their chemistry on this goal with slick tic-tac-toe passing resulting in an easy finish for Catton.
Catton was next on the board, with the exceptional solo effort.
Catton's second goal would send the game to overtime but the Chiefs' talisman would pick up a high sticking penalty in the extra frame with Lethbridge finding the overtime winner on the power play.
Spokane would finish the game 0/2 on the power play and 1/3 on the penalty kill. The Chiefs led the shot count 36-32 with Dawson Cowan earning third star with a plethora of impressive saves, despite the eventual loss. Catton's two goals saw him earn first star.
Up next the Chiefs head to Red Deer tomorrow night before finishing up the road trip over the weekend.
The Chiefs will return to the Spokane Arena on January 19th for Gonzaga Night, Pride Night, and the Fred Meyer Wall Calendar Giveaway.
