Swift Current Broncos News Release

EDMONTON, AB. - The Swift Current Broncos (10-47-1-3) did a good job of keeping the Edmonton Oil Kings (42-11-6-4) top players off the scoresheet, but went 0-for-4 on the power play, dropping a 4-1 game Friday night.

Edmonton opened up the scoring 3:45 into the first period as Scott Atkinson was able to slide a wraparound through the five hole of Isaiah DiLaura.

The Broncos had two power plays before the first period was up, but couldn't connect as the first period ended 1-0 Edmonton with the shots 16-6.

Hayden Ostir pulled Swift Current back on even terms 5:29 into the second by redirecting Jaxan Kaluski's sharp centring pass from the corner.

The two teams played four-on-four shortly after the tying goal, resulting in back and forth rushes with multiple odd-man rushes, but neither team was able to capitalize.

Edmonton eventually regained their lead as Jalen Luypen stole the puck on the forecheck before turning down the slot. His shot was stopped by DiLaura, but Atkinson shoveled the rebound across the crease for Josh Williams to give Edmonton a 2-1 lead.

Three minutes later, while shorthanded, the Oil Kings doubled their lead. Luypen again stole the puck on the forecheck before cutting out from below the goal line and lifting a backhander over DiLaura's glove.

Kaluski hit the post on a breakaway in the final minute of the period as Swift Current trailed 3-1 heading into the third.

Edmonton outshot the Broncos 16-8 in the third period before Riley Sawchuk hit the empty net to seal the Oil Kings 4-1 victory.

The Broncos are in Red Deer to play the Rebels Saturday night before returning home to host those same Rebels Wednesday night.
