Winnipeg Ice News Release
The ICE were back at the ICE Cave for the first time since February 19th, after a 3 game road trip to Alberta, followed by a match-up with the Moose Jaw Warriors last night, as the ICE took the 4-1 victory in Moose Jaw.
The ICE wasted no time scoring in front of the home crowd as Michal Teply put one past Warriors' goalie Brock Gould, just 4:08 minutes into the game. The Warriors looked to get the game tied up as Reece Harsch got booked for a double high sticking minor at 12:13. The ICE however, scored twice shorthanded during the penalty to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Peyton Krebs and Owen Pederson got the two shorthanded goals as both came on breakaways. Gage Alexander received his first start in nearly five months for the ICE and made four saves in the opening period, as his counterpart Gould made ten.
It was more of the same for the ICE in the second as Teply got his second of the game on the powerplay at 6:22 of the second period. Eric Alarie would score his 7th of the season to put the Warriors on the board. The ICE would score their third shorthanded goal of the game as Pederson scored his second after freezing Gould and then sniping it top corner. Shots were 24-12 in favor of the ICE after two periods.
The ICE continued to score in the third as Nino Kinder deflected a Nolan Orzeck shot for his 12th goal of the season. Isaac Johnson scored his 25th of the season to but a big emphasis on a 7-1 win for the ICE. Shots were 43-14 in favor of Winnipeg as Gage Alexander made 13 saves for his first career victory.
The ICE have a quick turnaround as they host the Prince Albert Raiders Sunday evening, in a crucial divisional showdown. Puck drop is at 6:00pm at the ICE Cave in Wayne Fleming.
