Broncos Add Pair from Minnesota at U.S. Priority Draft

Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos added two players to their prospect pool on Wednesday at the 2024 WHL U.S. Priority Draft.

With the 17th overall selection, the Broncos drafted defenceman Easton Johnson (6'/160lbs) out of Luverne, Minnesota. The elusive and skilled puck mover played with the Sioux Falls Power 14U AAA club and scored 25 goals and added 36 assists to lead all defencemen on his team with 61 points, good for second on the team as well.

"As far as talent level goes, we feel we grabbed one of the top talents in the draft," said Broncos General Manager Chad Leslie.

Johnson added six points in four playoff games for the Power this season.

With the 39th overall pick, the Broncos selected forward Nolan Fitzhenry (5'10"/155lbs) out of Andover, Minnesota. Playing for the Shattuck St. Mary's U14 AAA club and led the team with 53 goals in 57 games, leading the Sabres. The intelligent 200-foot forward also had 47 assists for 100 points, good for third on the team in points.

"Gifted offensively, obviously, but he also understands the demands of playing centre ice," said U.S. Scout Andy Kubas. "I've watched him several times play a 200-foot game."

At the 14U Nationals, Shattuck St. Mary's made the final, and Fitzhenry scored six goals and added four assists at the tournament, good for second on the team in points, and tied for the team lead in goals.

The 2024 WHL Prospects Draft takes place on Thursday starting at 10 A.M.
