U.S. Draft: Wheat Kings Select Shattuck St. Mary's Sniper with First Pick

May 8, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

The first pick of the 2024 U.S. Priority Draft is off the board for the Brandon Wheat Kings, and not only is it a player with plenty of high-end skill to his name, it's a player who might have some extra incentive to come to Manitoba to continue his hockey journey.

The Wheat Kings are proud to announce they've selected forward Colin Grubb with their first pick, 14th overall, in the U.S. Priority Draft. Grubb, who hails from Minot, North Dakota, was a scoring sensation with the vaunted Shattuck St. Mary's Program in 2023-24, posting 102 points in just 57 games played.

In addition to his time with Shattuck, Grubb also skated alongside the best players from his state and from Minnesota in the 15U AAA ranks. He posted nine points with that group, the fourth highest total on his team.

A native of Minot, Grubb not only grew up just three hours up the road from Brandon, he also grew up in a city where Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray coached for nine seasons. Grubb has even attended Wheat Kings games in the past, and is well familiar with the team and the city.

The Wheat Kings also hold the 36th overall pick in the draft.
