Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (May 27, 2008) - Sussex Skyhawks' RHP Gary Galvez pitched eight innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out four to notch his first win of the season, and snap the Brockton Rox four-game win streak. The 5-3 victory for Sussex also ended its own three-game skid.

Galvez received early run support as the Skyhawks scored four runs in the first four innings off of Rox starter LHP Rolando Viera. Sussex 2B Chris Brown capped off the early scoring with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Brown and his teammate LF Alex Frazier each homered and went a combined 6 for 8 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Each of the players had only two hits on the season entering the game.

Frazier's home run was a solo shot in the eighth and came off of Rox RHP Matt Zachary. It was the only run Zachary allowed in three innings of relief. His performance gave the Rox the opportunity to chip away at the lead. Brockton scored once in the sixth and once in the eighth, and came to bat in the bottom of the ninth trailing 5-2. RF Matt Maloney singled and stole second base, and 2B Melvin Falu singled to push Maloney to third. After LF Joe Frazee hit a sacrifice fly to plate Maloney, C Lee Rubin came ot bat representing the tying run. Rubin grounded into a game-ending double play to secure the first win of the year for Galvez.

Rox SS Dominic Ramos, 1B Francisco Lebron, and 2B Melvin Falu each had two hits in the losing effort for the Rox. The start of the game was delayed 36 minutes by rain.

The third and final game of the series is Wednesday night at Campanelli Stadium as Brockton sends RHP Mike McTamney (0-0, 15.75 ERA) to the mound for his second start of the year against Sussex RHP Kyle Ruwe (1-0, 3.38). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
